The most important piece of Deer Hunting Gear ??Large scent free plastic bags for your hunting clothes and hunting boots. The number one defense mechanism of deer is their nose. You will be 100% more successful if you will keep your hunting clothes in a scent free – scent filled bag when you’re not hunting. (What ever you use for a cover scent keep in your bag with your clothes and boots). You can’t wear your hunting boots and hunting clothes around camp with all that smoke, cooked food and human scent and not leave a trail like throwing buckets of paint where you walk. The deer’s super sensitive nose will pick up your trail as you walk to your stand and will leave the area if he crosses your trail of scent you left. Think of how blood hounds tract fugitives hours and sometimes days after they been thru a wooded area. The deer’s nose is much more sensitive than a blood hounds and can pick up the trail you leave on your way to your stand if your boots aren’t scent controlled. Also if you walk thru sage grass you will leave your scent from your pants in the grass or what ever you rub up against as you’re walking if they aren’t scent controlled also. The next thing is to rub down your weapon with your cover scent – gun oil is not a natural scent to a deer, - neither is new leather as in a leather strap on your rifle. These things must be attended to months before the opening day or your trophy deer will smell something unusual and you will not see the old Wise and heavily antlered buck your after.
